人主体の視点から離れ、動植物が複雑に関わり合う世界と、生物のもつ狡猾で底知れない力を、人が消費する衣服に植え付けた無数の種で表現したシリーズ「Species」

ある日、散歩していたら真っ赤な娘のコートにくっつき虫”がついていた。
植物の種である、この”くっつき虫”をまじまじとみると、とても魅力的な形状をしている。
このくっつき虫は「オオオナモミ」といって、動物の毛に付着することで自分たちの植生を広げてきた、とても賢い植物である。
なんとこの植物、人間の移動を利用して、遠くメキシコから海を渡って日本にたどり着き、今や日本各地に自生している。
なんだか、この小さな種から植物の狡猾な思考と底しれぬ力を感じた。
私たちは、いつでも人間の視点でしか世界をみれていない。
しかし、本当は様々な事柄、目に見えない関係のなかで奇跡的なバランスをとっているのがこの世界なんだろうと思う。
動物も植物も鉱物も人間にとって利用価値があるかないかという、一方的な人間の視点で、全てコントロールしているように振る舞っている。
人間以外のものは利用するだけで、人間はいつでもその上に立っているという思考ではないだろうか？
この世界は私たちの想像も及ばないような複雑な関係のなかで、奇跡的に成り立っている。
決して、何かを利用することが悪いとも思わない。
しかし、くっつき虫のように気づかない間に、私たち自身も何かの狡猾な作戦の中で踊らされている存在の一つだということを忘れてはいけない。
見えない何かとの関係を意識するだけで、私たちは奢らず、先に進んでいける気がする。
It is a series of works called “Species” that expresses the world where animals and plants are intricately involved, and the cunning and unfathomable power of living things, by having a distance from a human-centered perspective, by engrafted innumerable seeds in clothes consumed by humans.

One day, when I was taking a walk with my daughter, I found a “Sticker burr (Noogoora burr)” on my daughter’s bright red coat.
If I stare at this “Sticker burr (Noogoora burr)” which is a seed of a plant, it has a very attractive shape.
This Sticker burr (Noogoora burr) is officially called “Xanthium occidentalis” and is a very smart plant that has expanded its vegetation by adhering to the hair of animals.
What a surprise, this plant has used the transportation and movement of human beings and crossed the sea from Mexico far away to arrive at Japan.
Then now it has been growing naturally in various parts of Japan.
Somehow, I felt the cunning thoughts and unfathomable power of the plant from this little seed.
We have only seen the world from a human point of view at any given time.
However, I think this world is a miraculous balance between various things and invisible relationships.
Human beings presume they are controlling all of the animals, plants, minerals, etc. from a one-sided human viewpoint of whether or not they have utility value.
Isn’t it the idea that human beings are always standing on top of things other than humans just using them?
This world has miraculously consisted of a complex relationship that is beyond any stretch of our imagination.
I never think and say it is a bad thing to use something or someone.
However, keep in mind that there is something like Sticker burrs (Noogoora burr), it means we are one of the beings manipulated in some cunning strategies without realizing it.
Just by being aware of the relationship with something invisible, I think that we can move forward without getting conceited.
